The College Republicans at Syracuse University, the spearhead of CRA’s New York presence, spent Sunday giving back to their community and helping families in need. Working with “Blessings Box Food Pantry,” a local charity, the two organizations worked in unison to hand out food and hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies.

John Parker, Chairman of the Syracuse CRs, said he looked forward to future community-based collaborative efforts.

“The College Republicans at Syracuse University are happy to announce their first official volunteer day with the Blessings Box food pantry and charity. Members worked to give out backpacks to local kids heading back to school, and food to locals in need, much of which was donated by local churches ” Parker said of the event. “The Syracuse CR’s look forward to continuing our partnership with Blessings Box and giving back to the community.”

Fellow volunteer and Refugee Food Pantry Director Joe Walker gave a statement thanking the College Republicans for their assistance, saying it gave him “hope for a brighter tomorrow.”

“Because of College Republicans, we were able to provide fresh food for over a hundred needy families and also provide over three hundred filled school backpacks for young learners,” Walker said. “When I see new members of our community reach out to help those in need, I truly have hope for a bright tomorrow. Thank you, CR, and I look forward to enjoying your company in the future.”

The September 3rd event marks the first official “volunteer day” of the College Republicans at Syracuse University, with Chairman John Parker saying many more are to come.
