Kansas Committeewoman Sarah Green Speaks Out Against Biological Male Joining Her Sorority
Sarah Green, the Kansas National Committeewoman for College Republicans of America (CRA) and a University of Kansas student, drew national attention to a shocking development in the war on women: a biological male who “identifies” as a female was initiated into her previously all-woman sorority, shattering precedent and raising safety concerns from its members.
The new initiate, 37-year-old transgender lawyer Stevie Tran, was given honorary membership of the Sigma Kappa Sorority in an announcement released on the afternoon of July 3rd. Tran was a former brother in the Sigma Phi Beta Fraternity, an “LGBT-friendly” group that allowed “anyone who identifies as a male” to join.
A July 8th Twitter thread by Ms. Green blew the lid on the danger and unpopularity of Sigma Kappa’s recent admission decision, garnering more than 100,000 views on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Being a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority at the University of Kansas Chapter, Green said she joined under the assumption that the group would follow its stated mission: “to foster lifelong connection in sisterhood while being true to our founding as an intellectual and social women’s sorority.” To her dismay, political pressure from leftist leadership betrayed this mission in allowing Tran to join.
Committeewoman Green explained on X that polls of the sorority showed an overwhelming majority of members were hesitant to open membership to non-binary people – much less biological males. “Two months after joining, I was sent a survey about non-binary membership,” she said. “This survey was sent to 66,000 students and alumni. Those results showed an overwhelming preference to keep SK’s tradition of sisterhood and leadership declined to make any changes.”
Green and three other sisters joined a hearing on the matter, each sharing their discomfort with admitting a non-binary person into their sorority. During this meeting, Green learned that Sigma Kappa had contracted with TA strategies, a law firm specializing in LGBTQ+ advocacy in Greek Life, against the wishes of their members. Simultaneously, sorority leadership resisted pressure to publicize the results of their poll.
Doubling down on their decision, Sigma Kappa created a committee to “expand the conversation on [allowing non-woman members].” When Green applied for membership on the committee, they asked how she would “go about telling [her] chapter of the decision to allow non-binary membership.” Her application was promptly rejected after she said she wouldn't do it in the first place.
CRA chapters across the country have released damning public statements in response, condemning the forced inclusion of men in all-women’s spaces. College Republicans of Saint Mary’s University Vice President Macy Gunnell said on X, "The cult of transgender ideology has women's institutions in a chokehold right now. This treasonous mockery of women, by women, must be stopped. I and the rest of [St. Mary's College Republicans] stand with you, Sarah. Let us know what we can do.”
CRA Communications Director Dominick Buehler condemned the move and offered support to affected members. “Gender-exclusive spaces like sororities appear to be yet another casualty of the radical and irrational gender ideology permeating our society,” he said. “We stand with women at the University of Kansas and the women around the country who face uncertainty because of Sigma Kappa’s decision. CRA stands with them every step of the way and encourages them to boldly speak out.”
